  • To assess contaminant levels in suspended sediments from the Athabasca River downstream of the Alberta oilsands.
  • To compare results from two methodologies for collecting the suspended sediments (use of continuous flow centrifuges vs. passive collection)

Sediments will be collected using a continuous flow centrifuge and a passive sediment tube.

27th baseline on the Athabasca River (near the southern boundary of Wood Buffalo National Park)

Sampling will occur three times a year, with the first three sampling events planned for June and September of 2012 and February 2013. The project is a component of the Joint Canada-Alberta Implementation Plan for Oil Sands Monitoring.
